COVID-19 IACUC Guidance

March 16, 2020

UC Merced Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) will continue to process, review and approve protocol submissions.  The IACUC recommends that all animal research proceed as planned. Should the COVID-19 landscape change significantly, there may come a point when research activities including animal research will be restricted and submission reviews might be paused in the interest of individual and public health.

The IACUC strongly recommends that researchers take steps to decrease the likelihood that they will put themselves or members of their study teams at risk of becoming infected with or spreading the disease.  In this uncertain time, we ask our investigators to be mindful of potential impacts for the near future. Please consider postponing new research projects, delaying ordering in new animals, minimize traffic flow into the vivarium and be as forward thinking as possible as we navigate this worldwide concern.

Since the University had curtailed all non essential travel, researchers may want to consider pausing/postponing all non essential/critical field work/offsite work which would require significant foreign or domestic travel

We ask for patience as this is a quickly changing environment, but we will try to get researchers the most update information as soon as we can.
