Before you go abroad:
- Make sure to give yourself enough time to get all appropriate documentation (passports, visas, etc) before your departure date. New passports, renewals and visas can take months to complete.
- Make copies of your passport signature/photo/visa documentation, vaccination records, health insurance cards and credit card and bank contact information. Include phone numbers for each organization. Take these copies with you and keep them separate from the originals.
- Notify your credit card company and banking organization of the dates you will be overseas and your destinations to let them know there may be transactions/purchases in those countries using your cards.
- Notify your unit director and/or supervisor on your dates of travel, travel arrangements (airlines, lodging, etc.) and destinations.
- Make sure family, friends and neighbors who are staying stateside have information on your dates of travel, travel arrangements, destinations and how to contact your business unit at UC Merced.
- Make sure to get any needed vaccinations for you and anyone traveling with you at least two weeks before your departure.
